Brazillians hate youtube

Youtube may see the Brazillians in court becuase of a little scandal with one of thier beloved football stars ex-wives.
Brazilian court orders YouTube shutdown | The Register
: "A Brazilian court has ordered the closure of YouTube following the site's failure to completely remove a video showing Ronaldo's ex-missus and her new boyf indulging in a bit a of beach rumpy-pumpy, Reuters reports.

Model Daniela Cicarelli sued YouTube after the offending film proved a smash hit among Brazilian YouTubers. She and squeeze Tato Malzoni last year 'filed to force YouTube to take the video down and demanded $116,000 in damages for each day the video remains up'. Although YouTube did indeed remove some copies, other users reposted it and the whole sorry exposure dragged on for months."

Now what will ever stop them from re-posting and re-posting and re-posting. I mean honestly. It's a never ending cycle. Is this just meantt to be doomed? Funny how you never hear about revver, blip or metacafe being sued.

  • I'm a brazilian podcaster and listener of xolo.tv and really enjoy seeing your podcast. In regard to this post, the reason of banning is probably the huge success of youtube (no ones know metacafe, blinx.tv,etc.). And there is a whole controversial talking going around about justice censoring youtube.com Goes back to what used to happen 20-30 years ago when Brazil was in a Dictatorial system....

  • Hey Matheus! I hadn't thought about the political sturctures of countries like Brazil in regards to YouTube. This case seemed like a bit of a celebrity who is mad and trying to get back at YouTube if you know what I mean. To me there was more of a since of ouTube becoming this kind of Citizen Gossip / Tabloid construction in a way, where it is impossible to point the finger of who to go after for privacy invasion. For that reason they go after YouTube, becuase hey they've got 1.6 billion dollars eh? So I agree that YouTube's success could be it's downfall, but more importantly how does this freedom of speech, freedom of information affect these social structures in various countries and political systems. Of course that's a debate that is going on all over and there is lots of information on, but I just thought this was a good example of that.

I'm glad you enjoy watching XOLO Matheus! We love to hear from people who enjoy it! It always gives more of a boost than from people who hate it. :-)
